Following the overturning of the Roe v. Wade outcome, 14 US states have ceased abortion services. Among laws and initiatives designed to protect unborn babies is the Texas Heartbeat Act, which came into effect on September 1, 2021. This Act requires that a fetal heartbeat must be checked before an abortion. If a heartbeat is detected, there is a ban on carrying out abortion. “The Texas Heartbeat Bill is now law in the Lone Star State. Millions of children lose their right to life every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to save those lives.”

It is important to be aware that even when the mother’s life is in danger, there is another solution that does not entail abortion, Louisiana Surgeon General, the Honorable Dr. Ralph Abraham, who is a qualified medical doctor has stated that delivering a baby in the third trimester is a way to save a mother’s life if it is at risk.

“At this stage, medical knowledge has progressed to the point where children are viable around 22 to 23 weeks. I worked for almost 10 years in a tertiary level university hospital in New York where all of the high-risk pregnancies came. Cancer cases, decompensating heart, heart problems, severe preeclampsia, I could go on and on and on. And as a pro-life physician, I worked in that facility for almost 10 years. I saved hundreds of women’s lives. […] Get a delivery going. Even if it’s early. And most of them (babies) did survive.”

Although the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 was passed in the USA, critics have pointed out that it does not include any legal enforcement. However, the 2002 Act doesn’t protect them as it doesn’t state that they need medical care, or even that they should be taken to the nearest hospital. Thus, the Honorable Senator Ben Sasse reintroduced the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act in 2017. His spokesperson stated, “this is about making sure that every baby receives the same degree of care, whether they’re born in a hospital or an abortion clinic.”
