Previously in this multipart series on Reverend Bill McDonald (vegetarian)’s near-death experiences, Bill recalled a childhood near-death experience in which he left his body and says he was shown a vision of the next 50 years of his life. Decades later in India, while descending from Mahavatar Babaji (vegetarian)’s sacred cave, he suffered a medical crisis, stopped breathing, and fell from a 9.1-meter cliff. Bill says he landed on a boulder at the bottom of the ravine, felt no pain, and rose out of his body. Looking down at his physical body, he felt unafraid of dying. Then, from the tall grass beside him, a large cobra-person appeared.
And out of the tall grass comes this cobra. I use the term “large cobra,” but it wasn’t fear. There was something about that cobra, and the depths of me felt great love for it. It was a Divine serpent. I didn’t understand it, but it was like, all of a sudden, as it was crawling across my shoes, it was like somebody put paddles on my heart and my spinal cord. The kundalini was electrified. It was like somebody shocked my spinal cord, because the spinal cord went shoo. It was like fireworks, just like kushoo. It’s like electricity [was] shooting in and out of my whole body, and I jumped up. It was the love of this cobra, this Divine messenger, that brought me joyously back.
Bill’s third and most dramatic near-death experience came after he collapsed at Denver Airport in the US following a heart attack and later underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery. During the operation, Bill says his heart and lungs were stopped while a heart-lung machine kept oxygen circulating through his body.
So, I’m lying on the table. I’m counting back from a hundred. I think I got to 96 or something. That’s all I remember. I’m not on that table anymore. My physical body’s on that table. Me is in India, and I’m standing at this temple. It felt like real life. There I am. I’m looking at this temple, and that operation is going to be six or eight hours long. I might as well walk uphill. And so, I’m literally walking uphill while the surgery is going on, and my body, this other body, is feeling this pushing and pulling inside my body, like it’s happening in the distance. I get to the top of the hill. There sit these Ascended Masters, these rishis, these great gurus, these saintly holy beings, and with them is my guru, Gurunath. And I’m there going, “This is cool.” Bill says he knew he was back Home and did not want to return to his physical body. Then, a brilliant Light appeared, and a soft, feminine voice offered him bliss, joy, never-ending peace, and freedom from pain if he would simply let go.
And I’m going, “You sold me, that’s really good.” But my guru is standing there, and he goes, “Bill, don’t give up heart. You could skip a few beats, but don’t give up heart.” And I’m going, “Why?” He says, “’Cause I got more pain, and I got more suffering for you.” And I go, “What kind of sales pitch is that? I mean, she’s promised me bliss, love, joy, no pain, and you’re saying, go back because I’m going to give you pain?” He says, “Yes, and more pain than you ever had, because before, when you had pain, you would bliss out, and pain would be taken care of. Everything was taken care of. You didn’t have to suffer through pain. But now, I want you to suffer real pain, so you could tell other people how to handle their real physical pain.”
In Part 4, Bill begins to understand why he is being asked to return— and who he may be returning for. He is then pulled back to the operating table, but his struggle between staying and returning would continue for days. And behind him, in the sky, is a sea, an ocean of faces that have been unfolding and rolling out to me ever since. Join us tomorrow for Part 4 of Reverend Bill McDonald’s near-death experiences.
