In today’s news, Japan offers aid to address hunger crisis in Yemen, decades after fires, burned regions of Amazon rainforest found to be hotter than surrounding areas, African Development Bank invests in making Benin’s agriculture sector more climate change-resistant, Canadian electrode innovation enhances water-based batteries’ performance, United States police officer, auto mechanic, and nonprofit group join forces to help homeless mother in need, veganism undergoing rapid growth in Spain’s Catalonia region, and unique bond between duckling and cat-person inspires residents of South Korea.

You’re already doing the best for your health by adopting a vegan diet, so I’d like to offer some additional tips on how to better promote gut health. Incorporate fermented foods into your diet such as tempeh, sauerkraut, kimchi and miso. These are rich in probiotics that aid nutrient absorption and gut microbiome balance. Furthermore, fiber-rich plant foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes should be included in your meals to nourish beneficial gut microbes and enhance digestion. Enzyme-rich fruits like pineapple and papaya help break down proteins. Additionally, soaking and sprouting lentils and beans decreases gas-causing compounds and enhances nutrient uptake. It’s important to eat slowly and chew thoroughly as this will assist with enzyme release and gut-brain communication. Finally, try to consume water between meals instead of during the meal so stomach acid won’t get diluted.

Step right up for some chuckles with today’s joke. It’s entitled “School & Life.”

Tim asks his co-worker about school and life:

“Do you know what the difference between school and life is?”

“No, I don’t. In school, you learn lessons and then you are given tests on them. In life, you get tests, and you learn the lessons. Not only that, but life gives you tests where none of the answers were taught to you in school.”
