When we have magical power but don’t realize we have it, that is the real magical power. If we know it and can heal sickness, then it’s still not the real magical power, it’s just a magical power… meaning it’s not the essence. The real essence of magical powers has no form, it’s without “us knowing it.” With that kind of selfless magical power, we would not get involved with karma, and would not interfere in other people’s relationships. If we still know that we can heal sickness, we would bring upon ourselves a lot of complicated karma, and then we should accept that kind of retribution. (What if my own child or husband gets sick?) If our husband is sick… go see a doctor! (I could heal him by just doing a little bit of this.) If you want to treat him, go ahead. (Can I? If it’s my own family.) You can. You can. But why do you do that? (I pity them.) Pity. (Sometimes elderly people almost fell in my home.) I know. I know. Look at this world, many pitiful things happen. Your family is not the only one facing them. (Yes.)
But if you want to take pity on some people, and then reincarnate together with them life after life, then do whatever you want. If you want to bring them along to be liberated with you, you have to practice the Quan Yin Method (meditation on the inner Heavenly Light and Sound). Because if you heal others’ illnesses, they’re sick today and can get sick again tomorrow. If they’re cured today or tomorrow, they may get sick again next year. You cannot heal all illnesses by using your hand, even when you guarantee with your life, it won’t work either. After they die, there’s nothing you can do to help liberate them. (I can’t.) That’s right. (GOD.) That’s right. Therefore, the best thing to do is to permanently save them. After you help liberate him, he will no longer be reborn, die, get sick, grow old, and suffer. Isn’t it better than just touching him like that now? That’s why my teaching is the ultimate way. I’m not saying that it’s not good that you heal sickness; I’m just saying that it’s not good enough. Understand? Now, if you interfere in their karma, and later on, due to karma, and like you… they still will just come back here to reap their karmic consequences. If you practice the Quan Yin Method, you are liberated, and so are they, never have to be reborn, or get sick, Isn’t that better?
(I saved her after her fall; this was bent. She could walk again in 49 days, she fell, and start… again.) (She said that after falling, after 40 days her leg… She fractured her bone, but was able to walk again after 40 days.) (49 days.) (After 49 days, she could walk again.) (Her foot was white.) Knees. (Knees.) Turned white. Oh, then recovered. After dreaming that, she recovered. (She could walk again tomorrow morning. Really.) (She could walk tomorrow morning. After the dream, she was able to walk tomorrow morning.) She still cannot walk yet, is it so? (No.) She was able to tomorrow, it… Oh! She was able to walk the next day after her dream. Not “tomorrow,” but “the next day.” “Tomorrow” means tomorrow. It’s “today,” and then “tomorrow.” That’s “next day.” You can’t even speak Mandarin clearly. OK. I understand. Yes, I understand that.
Because you practiced spiritually in your past (life). Of course, you still have the ability to see things. It’s nothing. For our disciples… This is a small case just a small matter. In our practicing group, we don’t talk about things like that at all. It’s such a small thing, nothing special. (No. I’m not boasting.) I know, I know, I know. (It’s true. I can cure people.) I know. I know. This is only the kind of magical power of the first level. There are still many levels for us to go up, which you still don’t know, OK? After you have practiced a lot, you won’t have to use your hands at all. You won’t have to think of that person, who is at home, hundreds or thousands of kilometers away, praying for your help, and then he is cured. That is true magical power, without you even knowing it and he doesn’t know it. Maybe he knows. There is no need for you to gesture around, or touch here and there, which will make your hands sore. And the world has such a large population, can you touch every single one? You can’t. So many people are suffering, not just your family.
Therefore, the ultimate way to save the most people, is still to practice the Quan Yin Method, and be able to transform thousands of billions of manifested bodies, having Heavenly hands and eyes, like the Quan Yin Bodhisattva. That’s when we truly save people, and without interfering with their karma. Because we save people, but we don’t save people. We do without doing. We don’t do it by ourselves, moreover, we do it through the Great Power of the Universe, so we don’t get involved at all, and there’s no arrogance, and people won’t come to you and beg you and say “save me.” Even if he knows it, he also knows that Master is not there. He knows it is the Power, not the physical body of the Master that comes to save him. As a result, we avoid two attachments. He would not be attached to my physical body, and I would not be attached to the thought that I saved him, which may lead to my being happy about it and arrogant. That is the real magical power, which is harmless to us. We can use it, because we don’t use it. We use and not use. Then we will be free of arrogance, and it won’t hinder our progress in spiritual practice.
Any other questions? Any other questions? You want to ask, go ahead. (Master, I’m not 12 years old yet, can I get full initiation?) How old are you? (Ten years old.) Ten. Then you wait until next year, next year or the year after. I tell you, I’m already very understanding toward you. Because when you said you were six years old, but sometimes, actually you are only four or five. Those Chinese people are cheating. They are two years old once they are born, you know? I’ve already been very understanding, so don’t keep on… Wait for a few more years. No hurry. You see, you are all here to grab me, and then say that I snatch disciples. So young, and still manages to force me. Do you see that? He knows that it’s not OK, but still force me to give him initiation. And then everyone wrongly accuses me of snatching disciples. That’s not true at all. See how he’s laughing.
But I’m very pleased, seeing that you’re so young and already want to practice spiritually. When I was that young, I knew nothing about spiritual practice. Really, you are more blessed than I was. I don’t know how I became a Buddha just like that, and neither do I know why. So, don’t worry that you will not attain the Tao. I used to drive really fast when I was young, and sometimes skip school to watch a movie or enjoy music, and drink coffee. I was very naughty. Even then, I still often brought home first or second place awards from school. But it all just happened by chance. It just came naturally to me. I was not any better than you. Because I tend to remember everything after just reading it one time. I just read at it one time, and I’d memorize it. So I didn’t have to study very hard. I truly was not a studious student. When I practiced spiritually, I wasn’t more serious than you. I don’t think so. I think that some of you are more serious, very serious.
Because when I practiced, I let go of my whole family. After practicing the Quan Yin Method. Before that, I recited sutras. I also recited sutras and worshiped the Buddha. Sometimes I did get responses too, it’s not that I never had any. I’m not saying that reciting sutras and worshipping the Buddha gives no response. If you’re sincere, there will be a response; but if you are not sincere, it’s useless for you to keep reciting. When I say it’s useless, I mean that kind of practice is useless. But even when it is useful, it’s not the ultimate usefulness. I did get responses, but it was unlike what we have through practicing the Quan Yin Method now, that kind of great response. Just a little bit of response, floating, floating, floating, floating like that, seeing a little bit of a blurred image, unlike the wisdom that we have now. There’re responses, not nothing.
At that time, I still had a family, I still had my husband. But we rarely… Perhaps I was too focused on spiritual practice. In the evening, I would recite sutras and bow to the Buddha, then meditate until I fell asleep on the floor, slept in front of the altar. Late at night, if my husband got up he’d see me over there, “ko, koo, ko” and reciting sutras or meditating. He could not do anything about it either. He’d just give me a kiss, then go off to work. And then I’d also go off to work. In the evening, when he came home, he’d find me still there going “ko, ko, ko.” It seemed that having a wife didn’t make much difference.
At that time, I still had a family. Besides being responsible for the family, I was also reciting sutras and worshiping the Buddha, visiting temples, and paying respects to the master, whom I had taken refuge with, and so on, and helping my master spread the teachings, or printing sutra books, doing various things for the temple, helping them build temples, earning money to help them build temples and so on. That was something I did. But after practicing the Quan Yin Method, I had already left home. So, my spiritual practice – I don’t think it was any harder than yours. I wasn’t working as hard as you are. Because you have family; right now, you still have a family, children, a wife, so you treasure your time and meditate when you have time, and come here for group meditation once a week. Actually, you are all very hard-working. So, I also, somehow became a Buddha…
Like him, not even 10 years old, and he already wants to get full initiation. He’s already gotten half initiation, and he’s still not satisfied. (Ten years old already.) And he likes spiritual practice that much, which means he feels it’s beneficial to himself. Don’t look down upon him. Some little Bodhisattvas have plenty of inner experiences that I sometimes have to shut them down a little bit. Otherwise, he talks too much. Oh, six, seven years old, and he’s talking about so many experiences, Buddha and Bodhisattva realms. He talked about the same realms as what Shakyamuni Buddha said in the sutras. And then many people crowded around him; I’m worried his ego might emerge. Also, too many realms is not good for his spiritual practice, so it has to be shut down a little. Afterward, he couldn’t see it anymore. I told them not to talk. They talked too much, so I had to lock it up. Now he says, “I don’t see it, I rarely see it.” I say, “That’s enough. Enough. You are still so young.” Therefore, sometimes, we can’t look down on children, and say their spiritual practice isn’t good. They practiced in their previous lives, sometimes to a level higher than ours. They have come back to practice once more, and they’ll attain it. If we adults don’t practice, we couldn’t even catch up. Is it not so?

(Master, if we, for instance, meditate by saying the Name of [Lord] Jesus together with the Five [Holy] Names, is it allowed?) Slow. Yeah. (Master, when we meditate…) (Together with the Five [Holy] Names and saying [Lord] Jesus’ Name, is it allowed?) (Can we repeat the Five Holy Names and the name of Jesus Christ? Can we?) Repeat Master’s Name? And the Five Holy Names? (Repeat the Five Holy Names and… the Name of Jesus Christ.) Yes. (Yes.) (It is allowed.) Yes. Yes. Possible. No problem. (Yes. Thank You.) Yes. But it’s not necessary. (Yes.) Tell her that it’s OK, but it’s not really necessary. Because Jesus Christ is also included in the Five Holy Names. His Spirit is in there. (Oh, I see. Thank You.) Here, quickly. Your eyes are not sharp. Be quick. I still have to take care of upstairs. You go up there and take a look at the… (Master, may I ask: In worshipping the Lao Mu [Heavenly Mother] there are also five sentences. Are they the same as these?) Worshipping Lao Mu? (Worship of Lao Mu also has five sentences which cannot be known by others.) I don’t know what are your five sentences. If it’s secret, then don’t reveal. (No. What I’m asking You is, are those five sentences the same as Master’s Five Holy Names that can’t be revealed to others?) (She said that she worships the Lao Mu [Heavenly Mother]; there are five sentences that can’t be revealed to others. Are Master’s Five Holy Names also not to be known by others?) (Is it so? Yes?) Yes, yes, yes. (Because I worshipped the Lao Mu [Heavenly Mother] before, that’s why I’d like to ask is it also the same?) I don’t know if they are the same or not. (Both cannot be revealed to others.)
What you can’t reveal to people, I don’t know what you are talking about. If they say don’t, then don’t. When you are learning from me, if I tell you not to tell others, then you don’t tell, because it’d only confuse others. For example, if you want to learn English, you have to learn it for several years. If you just learn a little bit like “ABC” and then go to tell others that is English, you’d confuse others. It’s not good.
(We’ve learned I-Kuan Tao, can we still learn from Master?) You can. Why not? There is the saying “the five religions are one.” I-Kuan Tao teaches you the essence, scriptures of ancient people, and teaches you to believe in God, the Lao Mu (Heavenly Mother), and I teach you to communicate directly with the Lao Mu (Heavenly Mother). That’s all there is to it. OK? (OK.)
