In Dr. Greger’s 2023 publication, “How Not to Age: The Scientific Approach to Getting Healthier as You Get Older,” he explores the science of longevity and vitality. “It turns out only about 25% of the difference in lifespan between people is due to genetics.” “Aging can be thought of as an inflammatory disease. But thankfully, excess inflammation can be extinguished through changes in diet. So that’s basically meat, dairy, and processed foods, tropical oils, salt. Eating an antioxidant diet, or an anti-inflammatory diet, is really synonymous with eating a diet centered around plant foods.” “In general, we should get our nutrition from the produce aisle, not the supplement aisle. They’re inside all day, in which case I’d recommend taking 2,000 international units of vitamin D3 a day. Two thousand micrograms of vitamin B12 once a week is all you need.”

Dr. Greger addresses a factor that helps people sustain a cruelty-free vegan lifestyle. “It’s important to establish those social connections. The Plantrician Project, which is a great group, they have a network of vegan potlucks throughout the world.” “Our food production doesn’t just affect the health of the end consumer. But it affects entire communities around these confined animal feeding operations where most meat comes from. So, it affects everybody, regardless of what you eat, how these corporations operate. You have so many animals packed unnaturally into these kinds of small, confined airspaces. It gives these viruses with pandemic potential lots of roulette wheel spins, locking in whatever kind of genetic mutations that enable them to kind of jump the species barrier.”
