Previously in Part 1 of this three-part series on Randall Rathbun’s near-death experience, Randall found himself outside his body in chains after a car crash. An evil spirit took him down to hell, where he struggled to breathe in the oppressive heat and heard people screaming from the lake of fire. As he was brought toward the flames, he feared he would be trapped there forever and never speak to his family again. Now, in Part 2, Randall describes how the spirit heaved him toward the middle of the burning lake, where the flames rose over 30 meters and roared like an oil furnace. Then he heard sharp sounds like clapping, lost consciousness for about one second, and opened his eyes above the Earth in a very quiet spot. He cried out that he had escaped, though he did not know how, and remained overwhelmed by the horrors of hell. After a few minutes, he heard a voice he recognized as GOD the Father’s, speaking with the highest authority in the Universe. His surroundings shook as GOD spoke. GOD told him that they had an important decision to make and that HE would give Randall all the time he needed.
Then HE said something that broke my heart, but in a good way. HE said, “I trust you.” That was the first time I had any real authority in my life tell me that they trusted me, much less GOD HIMSELF saying such a thing. Randall questioned how GOD could trust him after he had lied and knowingly disobeyed HIS word. GOD gently urged Randall to listen, then offered to let him experience Heaven. Randall could hear GOD speaking behind him but could not see HIM. Looking back, he believed GOD had protected him from being blinded by HIS glory. Moments later, Randall stood on bright green, living grass before a pure white university about six stories tall. He says everything in Heaven is transparent like glass, allowing GOD’s Light to shine through without darkness or shadows. Surprised to see a university there, Randall asked GOD what it was doing in Heaven.
And HE said, “Randall, you don’t stop learning when you die. You go on. And I know that you love mathematics. If you want to continue learning mathematics here in Heaven, I have prepared a university where you can do that.” Randall understood that the university was not a special privilege reserved for him. He believed GOD had also prepared universities where others could continue learning. GOD next took him to a woodworking shop, where someone he believed was a Saint was making a bookcase. Having spent five years doing detailed carpentry work, Randall realized he could continue that work in Heaven. GOD reminded him that HIS Son is a carpenter.
Next, GOD brought him to an apricot orchard. The fruit had a rich fragrance with a hint of almond, and GOD invited him to pick an apricot and eat it. But much to my surprise, where I had plucked the fruit off the tree, instantly a flower appeared and bloomed. […] And GOD, […] said, “Randall, nothing in Heaven dies. There’s not one dead thing in Heaven. Everything is alive.” GOD also showed Randall a wheat field, and he learned that Heaven has fruit, vegetables, and grains.
Next, GOD took him to a social center where a debate was taking place. Randall discovered that people in Heaven could communicate through their thoughts. When two audience members thought of a clearer way to express the speaker’s point, the speaker immediately picked up their suggestions and changed his wording. GOD explained that people could learn from each other this way. Randall then understood why he had been brought there. In high school, he had missed the chance to compete in a debate because his roommate had failed to appear, forcing their team to forfeit. GOD had remembered his disappointment and was now offering him another opportunity to debate. At that point, I started crying a little bit inside because I realized that GOD never forgets any disappointment or heartache or sorrow that we have.
In Part 3, Randall describes joining heavenly worship before the throne of GOD, seeing a tapestry of his life, and facing a decision about returning to Earth. And I thought to myself, “This is where I want to be forever. Right here.” Join us tomorrow for Part 3, the concluding part of this three-part series on Randall Rathbun’s near-death experience.
